BUCKET LIST TREK TO THE TOP OF KILIMANJARO

In September 2021 fitness enthusiasts from around the world will come together for 12 days on an adventure of a lifetime. It’s an endurance challenge, that’s never been done before. A world’s first!

We’ll set off through the Machame route as one big team. During the journey to the summit you’ll face the weather, terrain and the altitude through jaw-dropping scenery. Everyone works together against the elements to reach Africa’s highest peak and the world’s highest free standing mountain at 5896 metres, where we then descend into the crater for the unique challenge event.

It’s going to be tough, it will take serious determination, preparation and the right attitude to succeed. With over 45 years of combined adventure event experience and uncompromised commitment to safety, we’re here to support you all the way to the finishing line.

Participants will be invited to a unique UK-based simulation & preparation weekend taking place in July 2021, where you’ll get the chance to meet the team, experience the challenge and receive expert advice to help you prepare for what’s to come.

To ensure your success, we’re bringing together a 400-member local support crew for the Kilimanjaro event, including tour guides, medical staff and on-site high altitude filed hospital. You will be in safe and expert hands.

Event Overview

  1. Mandatory multi-stage altitude acclimatisation to Uhuru Peak, elevation 5,895m (19,340ft.)
  2. Descent into the crater, elevation 5,750m (18,864ft.)
  3. 100m Obstacle Course within Crater
  4. Reset & Refuel at Barafu Camp elevation 4,600m (15,091ft.)
  5. 2-day, 2 stage speed descent from Barafu Camp to park gates.
  6. Registration is open for individuals that meet strict qualification criteria.
  7. Finishers must complete Stage 1 by Summitting the Mountain.
  8. Finishers must complete Stage 2: The Obstacle Course as follows;
    • Each competitor travels individually and unassisted.
    • Course is between a pre-determined start line and pre-determined finish line.
    • Complete at least 50% of the obstacles.
    • Mandatory obstacle first attempt on each obstacle.
    • Maximum 3 attempts on each obstacle.
    • 5 min penalty per obstacle for failing to complete the obstacle.
    • 10 minute penalty per obstacle not attempted (physical / medical incapacity)
    • Compulsory 3-minute medical check after each obstacle.
    • If the medical director/staff confirm the participant is not medically fit to carry on, they will need to descend immediately due to safety event rules which are in the best interest of every participant.
  9. Finishers must complete Stage 3: The timed decent individually and unassisted traveling over the Start & Finish lines of each sub-stage.
  10. Results are “Furthest, Fastest”; ranking is by the number of obstacles completed and then by the fastest time.

QUALIFICATION

EXPERIENCE

  1. Provide a letter from a licensed physician stating they are fit and healthy for the event.
  2. Have a documented strong base line of health and fitness. Competitors may be required to provide a doctors certificate stating they are in good health and adequate condition to make the ascent.
  3. Documented record of completion of an organised competition that demonstrates the individual’s determination, strong mind-set, and adherence to competition rules.
  4. Confirm adequate preparation for the challenge and satisfying entry criteria.
  5. Minimum age 16 years old on the start day of competition.
  6. Have ascended
    • a 3,000m+ within 12 months of the event date or;
    • a 4,000m+ within 18 months of the event date or;
    • a 5,000m+ within 24 months of the event date or;
    • a 6,000m+ within 36 months of the event date or;
    • other documented experience at altitude approved by the event medical director

PROCEDURAL

  1. Registered with their National Federation member of World Obstacle, the Federation Internationale de Sport d ’Obstacles (FISO).
  2. Agree to the FISO Anti-doping rules. This may include random sampling, before, during or after the event.
  3. Agree to Altitude OCR World Championships competition rules and the FISO Competition Rules MSD (Master Source Document).
